The worst performers of the session were Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (T:), which fell 2.06% or 52.0 points to trade at 2477.0 at the close. Advantest Corp. (T:) declined 1.86% or 80.0 points to end at 4220.0 and Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (T:) was down 1.82% or 75.0 points to 4045.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2466 to 1013 and 227 ended unchanged.

Crude oil for September delivery was down 1.14% or 0.65 to $56.45 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.82% or 0.50 to hit $60.80 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.21% or 3.25 to trade at $1510.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.34% to 106.36, while EUR/JPY fell 0.26% to 118.90.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 97.597.
